Tarquín seeks to contribute to methodological development on fluvial morphodynamics and collect the published information about palaeofloods in Spain.
The Tarquín Project has three main actions:
The constitution of a network of research groups, management agencies and specialized technical teams may facilitate collaborations and improve knowledge about fluvial morphodynamics and its application in decision -making related to sediment management in Spanish rivers. Building a palaeofloods database will create a much broader temporal window for the analysis of events with high return periods. In the future Spain will be able to count on maps of the morphodynamic state of the rivers by sedimentary incision or agradation (MEMoRIAS).

Search for equipment and people who conduct research on river sedimentary morphodynamics in Spain. Creation and coordination of a scientific-technical network on fluvial morphodynamics (REDCEMOS). Collection and content proposal for a web page with the network information and its activities.

Program design and content for a technical conferences on: sediment sampling and transport techniques; Morphodynamic Field Analysis; and solutions for mitigation. Dissemination of the event within scientific, technical groups and organizations related to the management of the fluvial environment. Management of postulated scientific-technical communications.

Content review of the methodological proposal and analysis of their strengths and weaknesses. Proposals to improve the methodology and recommendations for its implementation in different river contexts and scenarios.

Application of a diachronic methodological approach in a pilot basin, to evaluate the sedimentary state of its main channel and detect changes in erosion and sedimentation at a stretch scale.

Creation of the alfanúmeric and spatial layers that make up the PaleoRiada database, based on the paleohydrological information of flash floods and floods published in Spain. Creation of a public digital scenario for the database consultation.
